A Desert Dream

Drifting off in a midnight’s peace,
when all the world faded away,
I suddenly felt the light shine down
and noticed sand all around.
The heat was exhausting my very existence
and I started walking with utter persistence
just trying to find something anything to put the feelings behind me
to free myself from the torment that binds me, in the dry place where I now am
as the wind blows hot with dusty sand.
It is here I stand and want to give up but I see a bright red flower making the most
of this place yet still able to impress me with its death defying growth.
My frailty is exposed by me fleeing efforts.
Flowers should not be so tough
but they do not have anyone to tell them any different.
Perhaps I should live this way as well…
My last thought before I awaken thirsty and hot,
from a desert dream and the lesson it taught.
